Tools: vCard Splitter Application

Name: vCard Splitter
Application: splits the phonebook.vcf into contact.vcf files.
Requirement: Copy contacts from Sony to Nokia or other phones.

Preface:

So many of my friends have asked me who are moving from Sony to other brand for Mobile phones, specially to Nokia, that they want to copy there contacts. and they are not able to do that. There are many ways to that out of them one is to export the whole address book from Sony and split it into individual contact file and transferring them to your other handset.

Steps:

You can use the below steps to do that:

  1. Open your address book in the Sony Mobile.
  2. Use Options -> Advance -> Send All Contacts -> Via Bluetooth.
  3. Select the Computer where you need to send the Contacts from the searched devices.
  4. Download the vCard Splitter from here (old version removed).
  5. Extract and open the application.
  6. Select the “whole phonebook.vcf” file in the input file.
  7. Select the output directory where the vCard files need to be created after splitting.
  8. Click on Split button.
  9. Open the output directory.
  10. Transfer them to your other handset.

Notes:

Above method depends on the type of the handsets you are having at both ends.

Update:

Thanks to all you guys suggesting out the features and finding out the problems in the applications. I have updated the vCard Splitter Application nearly re-writing the most of the code. You can download the new updated version from below mentioned link.

  1. It started on a great note but stuck just after 62 contacts and gave me an error message…
Unhandled exceptionhas occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click quit, the application will close immediately.
could not find a part of the path ‘D:\Default\Ajay Singh F\O.vcf’

Kindly suggest how do i proceed…??

  2. When i run this to split a VCF file from an HTC Desire HD Android phone it immediately reports the message “Some Error Occurred while splitting”. Of the 702 contacts within the original VCF file it splits the first 642 all numbered.

    1. the contact might be containing some binary data like image or a ring tone where it is not able to progress.

  3. None of the contacts have ringtone data, all use the standard phone ringtone the same for each contact. Some out of the 702 have a picture maybe about 10 of these all are in the 1st 642 and all are reproduced perfectly when imported into another phone. There is obviously some small bug with the software that needs amendment.

  4. Ok I managed to find what was causing the error and correct it. This may help you fix it. I checked the contact number 643 to see if there was anything unusual that caused the error at this point. For the name of the contact I had put the name for example John Smith but after put a couple of ?? because it was an old number not sure if it was still current. Thus the name in the phone displayed as John Smith??

Once I removed the ?? from the name the software works correctly and splits all 702 contacts. Hence a slight addition to the number of symbols that the software recognizes would fix the problem.

Thanks for the software I hope the info helps you.

  5. I have seen somany websites and somany blogs none of them helped me but your simple tool hepled me a lot hatts of to the software maker
